Lu Dedoo is a research study app for Nigerian adolescents that is designed to foster connections to a supportive community, offer tools for self-monitoring and habit formation, provide resources for goal-setting and action planning, and present engaging informational resources. Lu Dedoo covers a range of health and wellness topics to support adolescents’ varying needs over time.

Lu Dedoo is built on the HealthMpowerment platform, which was created by Dr. Lisa Hightow-Weidman, MD, MPH, a public health scientist at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Lu Dedoo includes new information and resources developed by a team of young people and health professionals at The Desmond Tutu Health Foundation and the Desmond Tutu the University of Cape Town (UCT) and Duke University.

The principal investigator for this study is Dr. Olaposi Olatoregun (MBBS, MPH) at APIN Public Health Initiatives, Nigeria, the co-investigator is Dr. Marta Mulawa (PhD, MHS) at Duke University, and the senior fellow/mentor is Dr. Catherine Orrell (MBChB, MSc, MMed, PhD) at The Desmond Tutu Health Foundation and Desmond Tutu HIV Centre

Lu Dedoo users must be invited to participate in the study by DTHF and need a code to open the app.
